Forward Deployed Software Engineer

About the Role We are seeking a Forward Deployed Principal Software Engineer to integrate an existing software stack with our customer. Role Description As a Forward Deployed Principal Software Engineer, you will serve as the vital bridge between end users and the core commercial product development team, driving advancement and integration. Operating on the front lines as an extension of engineering, you will deliver rapid software remediations and technical solutions directly to the customer. By translating operational challenges into actionable, customer-driven feedback for the software team, you will directly shape the future roadmap and continuous quality of our platform. This position is full time on-site at facilities in Springfield and Arlington, VA. Salary Range: $176,000-$209,000 Benefits: Soresu offers a highly competitive benefits package in addition to base salary, including an Individual Benefits Account (IBA) funded at 25% of base salary and a 401(k) contribution equal to an additional 25% of base salary. Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with at least 10 years of experience • In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, two additional years of related experience may be substituted (12 years total). • A Master’s degree may be substituted for two years of experience; a PhD may be substituted for four years of experience. • Demonstrated excellence in direct customer engagement, with a strong ability to build client trust, rapidly triage user issues, and translate operational feedback into clear engineering requirements. • Experience with geospatial software development and concepts (e.g., Rasterio, Fiona, Shapely, OpenLayers, GDAL) • Proficiency in Python • Experience using Git, GitLab, Bitbucket or other software development lifecycle management tools • Experience with fast, iterative development cycles and an ability to adapt to shifting requirements • Travel up to 10% • Must have and maintain a current active security clearance (TS/SCI) Preferred Qualifications: • Cloud Experience (AWS or equivalent) • Experience developing and conveying software system architectures • Experience with JavaScript, Java, Go or C#.
